Dirty Franks
About This Spot
Stepping into Dirty Franks is like slipping through a well-worn doorway into a quieter, slower rhythm of Philadelphia life. This unassuming bar tucked away on South 13th Street carries the warm, familiar hum of a place that’s both a refuge and a gathering spot for those who appreciate authenticity over flash. Its dim lighting and locally curated art create a backdrop where stories flow as easily as the beers on tap.
The atmosphere here is unpretentious and welcoming, marked by an easy-going vibe that naturally invites lingering conversations and moments of quiet companionship alike. Regulars and newcomers blend seamlessly, drawn by the genuine hospitality and a sense of camaraderie that feels rare in the city’s rapidly changing scene. The music isn’t just background noise; it sets the tone — thoughtful, familiar, and fitting the steady beat of laidback city life.
Behind the bar, a thoughtful selection of taps and bottles quietly anchors the experience. Whether it’s savoring a crisp IPA brewed in-house or reaching for a no-fuss classic from the cooler, the drink choices complement the bar’s spirit: honest and straightforward. There’s a gentle nod to tradition in the distinct specials and rotating taps, but nothing here rushes or pressures you to keep pace with a fleeting trend.
Dirty Franks embraces the imperfect charm of a dive bar untouched by time. Its cash-only policy and modest interiors hint at a bygone era when places like this were simply neighborhood fixtures — spots where kindness and familiarity mattered more than decoration. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick drink or to find a quiet corner after a busy day, the friendly faces behind the counter and the casual energy of the space make it clear you’re in a place that cares, quietly and sincerely.
For those who seek a pause from the city’s buzz, Dirty Franks offers a rare kind of comfort — a place that doesn’t try too hard to impress, but rewards with subtle warmth, shared smiles, and the understated joy of good company in a truly local setting.

Glad we were able to pop in here! Cool, laid-back vibes, great service, regular patrons, local art displayed and for sale. I think I saw some chip bags for sale but otherwise I don't think there's food. Still, good beverage variety and great environment!

Super cool dive bar that felt very local but also a welcoming feel. There was a decent beer selection and there's no way to miss that this is a cash only bar. Service was good and music selection was great. Really enjoyed the vibe here and wouldn't mind going back. I read that it gets busy at night so we went some time after lunch and it wasn't busy at all.

me and my friend are not from philly. last night we were stranded and walked into this little hole in the wall and captain who works there helped me and my friend so much. He was such a kind man. Charged our phones and helped with anything he could. I’m super grateful for his help. Amazing atmosphere.

I’ve been going to Dirty Franks since college back in the ’80s, and a recent visit reminded me why I love it. The place hasn’t changed much at all, in the best way. Walking in feels like stepping back in time, full of nostalgia and character. I love it just the way it is. No frills, no pretense, just a real Philly dive done right. Still one of my favorite dive bars in Philadelphia. Shelf of Shame, no food, and cash only, exactly as it should be.

Sometimes you walk in and you instantly know that it's your place. Loved everything about DF, especially Gail. Best local place I've been to in the city. ????????

What’s there to say about Dirty Franks.? is it cash only? Yes. Are the bartenders efficient even during busy times? Yes. The staff is great. The atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. There are all types of folks that show up and you can pick up a dart game or just sit and have a beverage with your friends. The washroom is as you expect. They have a special that will absolutely knock you out. Or you can just have a Hamms for two dollars. A wonderful spot.

Fantastic atmosphere. Darts and excellent decorations. Cash only. I visit every time I do nightlife in Philly. Could maybe use one more bartender for certain rushes, but other than that, great. I dropped a dart through my foot here once and I’d still go back.
